Five Years After 911

The Response Continues

It was never about oil or politics or religious beliefs. At 8:46 AM in New York City on September 11, 2001 our world changed with the attacks at the World Trade Center. Less than 1 hour later another jet struck the Pentagon in Washington D.C. At 10:03 AM on that day the fourth airliner crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.

In the aftermath of September 11th  we learned of the heroics from all walks of life. The NYC Police and Fire Department responded immediately. As did the Washington emergency services at the Pentagon.

But what was most telling of the future was the brave passengers on the airliner over Pennsylvania who took action to end the fourth attack and in doing so lost there lives. Less than two hours after the first strike we were already fighting back. Within days the United States Military prepared to strike at the source of the plot to attack the United States in Afghanistan. From the air, sea and on land our all-volunteer Armed Services took vengance for the suffering and loss of life we endured.

As the scope of the conflict widened additional troops were deployed in Iraq. Their struggle along with those already  in Afganistan has been difficult to endure for the families and friends of our nation's brave military.

In the years that have passed our attention has been diverted by natural disasters in far away places and by the catastrophe created by  Hurricane Katrina. Yet each day. Every day our troops have been facing danger, injury and unfortunately many have lost their lives.

As frightening and painful as that day in September was we have in many ways returned to a more normal life. Yet the threats we have faced since 9-11 continue. Our law enforcement in the United States and abroad continue to do their job to indentify and remove any future threats to our security.
